Why Did You EVER Think Rich POC Experience LESS Racism, Either Growing Up or Later?
This is a thing. I can't, for the life of me, understand how on Earth it is a thing except that the rich White people who built racism to be a one-size-fits-all 'you lose' button want the poor White people they are using against their poor neighbors to believe it, so they say it with their folksy 'trust me, I wouldn't lie to you' demeanor, which they defend indignantly, no mater how obvious the counter-example.
That's why it exists. How it has ever been accepted or taken on currency, given how laughably insane it is, that is what escapes my otherwise perspicacious understanding of the workings of social sentient beings.
I mean, I can easily track it. It clearly turns over in the mind of the poor, subjugated White person thus: my supposed ally, who is clearly my oppressor, a physically, financially and emotionally abusive partner who maintains control by a constant campaign of public flattery and an endless stream of impossible demands and disproportionate consequences, tells me that people of color who 'make' it arrive in this multi-racial suburban paradise where race is invisible and no one is racist.
It is obvious that my abusive ersatz ally is racist, because they join me in using coded language that non-racists would never, ever use, they encourage me to be more racist, more angry and more prone to violence, and they reward me for explicit acts of racism, or they extend effort to reduce negative consequences. If the supposed newly-rich person of color were to move into a suburban home near my rich, White supposed-ally, I would expect my ally to harass, intimidate and bully the new neighbor of color, just as they do from the safe remove of a television camera. I would expect it, as a precondition my continuing trust, that they would, at a minimum, do underhanded things, and would be best pleased if they would do them openly.
But they have told me that racism does not exist in the suburbs, and, as noted, the 'safe remove of a television camera' separates the two supposed allies just as much as it (hypothetically) once separated the now-rich adversaries. You may be noticing that I'm eliminating all thought of a middle class entirely. The reason is that that is the purpose, the narrative and the constantly promoted fantasy of the oligarchically wealthy: poor and rich, and anyone with any more money than you is rich and they've got what you want and they may be keeping you from getting it.
At my (poor, rewarded-for-being-racist White) remove, I do not see the methods of harassment and intimidation. I don't hear the word 'n*****.' There is no proof the harassment and intimidation I expect my wealthier supposed-ally to mete out is explicitly racist, and the ally, whose advice I trust and who rewards me for satisfying very base instincts, relieving me of the cares and responsibilities of civilization and of actually being civilized, says there is no racism, that if you are a POC with any amount of personal capital you are immune to racism, then obviously that's true, even though that supposed-ally, themselves is definitely racist and must definitely do things that are racist but definitely no one can tell that they're racist and no one is harmed by them the way that racism harms people. Definitely. Sure, Rita. Definitely.
Let me just close this little rant by saying it clearly: People of color with money, whether a little money, like doctor and lawyer wealth, or real money, like Oprah wealth, definitely do still suffer racism, mainly because, and I cannot stress this enough, they live where the racists live!!! They experience more racism, in fact, because the reality is that most poor people, most poor White people are not racist, because they live, work and play beside people of color. White people who are racist tend to have money, tend to have inherited that money, and tend to have inherited that money from ancestors who owned slaves.
So do please miss me with future arguments of "but he/she shouldn't even have to worry about that s***, they're rich!" You literally only sound jealous to me. And stupid, obviously. But, those two. Definitely.
